August inside the Budō Marketing Group was all about automation, back-to-school strategy, and tools that make running your school smoother than ever.

There was also a big debate on that crux of a subject, tuition fees and money in the martial arts. Rising tuition fees and the market perception of the martial arts seems to have stagnated for many schools and clubs. We aim to fix that using programs and adding value.

  • The group discussed the importance of pricing based on perceived value rather than just undercutting competitors.

  • Analysing the market and understanding what customers are willing to pay is crucial.

  • Offering "friction" or barriers to entry can help attract the right students who are committed.

We also had a special showcase from coding expert, Derren, who’s building a custom martial arts school management platform designed to integrate attendance tracking, belt management, online booking, billing, and automation - all shaped by feedback from our members.

✅ Add a clear headline CTA (not just your school name).

✅ Use a subheadline that tells them what they’ll get if they click.

✅ Add a fake bright button graphic that says “Click Here”.

When they click the cover image, have the post copy sell your offer, and in the first comment, put your sales page or landing page link (never your homepage).

💡 Pro Tip: Change your cover seasonally or when you run a new campaign (kids classes in September, summer camps in June, etc.).

2️⃣ Use the Featured (Pinned) Section

You can pin up to five posts here, yet most school owners have zero.


Pin posts that:

✅ Promote your main classes...

✅ Share your free download lead magnet...

✅ Show your current schedule...

✅ Highlight recent events (keep these fresh)...

Answer common parent questions

These posts stay visible at the top, perfect for when a browsing parent is “just looking.”

3️⃣ Send Traffic to Landing Pages, Not Your Homepage

Your homepage is like a mall, people wander and leave.


A landing page is like a single shop - it’s focused, persuasive, and built to convert.

So instead of linking to your homepage:

✅ Send them to your Kids Classes page...

✅ Send them to your Trial Offer page...

✅ Send them to your Free Download opt-in page...

4️⃣ Keep It Current

Nothing kills trust faster than outdated info.

Swap out expired offers immediately

Remove old events from your featured section.

Update your cover image when your main campaign changes.

5️⃣ Don’t Forget Your Profile (Your Authority Page)

🤔 Your personal profile is you.

🤔 Your business page is your brand.


Both need to match in tone, quality, and professionalism.


Parents will check both - so make sure they tell the same story.

✅ Keep info fresh and seasonal

✅ Mirror professionalism on personal profile.

Bottom line:


Your Facebook Page is free.

It’s public.

It’s powerful.


Use it like a marketing funnel, and it will bring in leads while you sleep.

But you need to feed it.

Why Traditional Websites Are Dead (“Deadsites”) - And What You Can Do About It 😎

There’s a dirty little secret in online marketing…

And the secret is out...

Most martial arts school websites aren’t doing their job anymore.


They look nice. They’ve got your logo. Maybe even a few smiling student photos.


But when it comes to actually bringing in leads… they’re dead weight.

And to top it all, nothing's changed since 2014.


We call them “Dead Sites” because they just sit there, hoping someone fills in a form or picks up the phone.


And hope is not a marketing strategy.

And next month you're getting the honest truth, what the alternative is, and what you can do about it for your school...should you choose to.

The truth is ...a website should be your hardest-working organic salesperson, not a confusing, menu-strewn catalogue! (I just made up 'menu-strewn', I like it!).

A “Deadsite”, sorry Website, doesn’t guide the visitor, it leaves them to figure things out on their own, and in a world where attention spans are measured in seconds, that’s fatal.

The fix isn’t about adding more content; it’s about turning it into a conversion machine.

That means having a single, clear purpose for every page, speaking directly to your perfect audience, and giving them an 'easy-next-step' to take right now, and not with someone else down the road.

Time's have changed. It's that simple.

Why Do Deadsites Fail?

They act like brochures, not salespeople – pretty, but no clear call-to-action.

Too many menu options – visitors wander, get distracted, and leave.

Generic messaging – nothing that speaks directly to your ideal parent or new student.

No mobile focus – most visitors are on phones, but the design still screams “desktop from 2014.”

No lead capture strategy – no free guide, no irresistible offer, no reason to click. Nada.
